In support to the governance of President Rodrigo R. Duterte who vowed in his campaign to end criminality and drug related problem in the Philippines in three to six months, the City Government of Bislig through the leadership of Mayor Librado C. Navarro and in cooperation with the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Bislig task force headed by Police Superintendent Rainier Diaz force held two consecutive sets of Values Transformation Seminar Cum and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) at Mangagoy Barangay Gymnasium, Mangagoy, Bislig City last August 16-17 and August 25-26, 2016. The seminars were open to all residents of the 24 barangays of Bislig City who were involved in illegal drug activities and transactions as verified and checked by the police intelligence. These are the the pushers, dealers, users, and couriers. They were also the direct recipients of the PNP’s “Oplan Tokhang” (Toktok-hangyo or Knock and Plead ) – an anti-drug campaign which started at Davao City and was adapted at the national level as President Duterte took the presidency.
Fortunately, these participants submitted themselves to the call of the city government by attending this seminar as they also aimed to change, start a new lifestyle, and educate themselves on how to resist drugs.
City Mayor Librado C. Navarro was present at the event showing his utmost support to his people with Vice Mayor Jonas Cacayan and City Administrator Charlito Lerog. The event was facilitated by Igmedio C. Abogado, as resource speaker / formator on Values Transformation Seminar. Dr. Dionisio V. Tayko, the resource speaker, in association with his team enabled activities that discussed on Drug Abuse and its ill effects. Subsequently, seminar on Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was also conducted through PO3 Roland M. Popera as the resource speaker. The participants were given certificates of completion.
This activity of the local government of Bislig is indeed a great help to the participants as they strive towards the right direction of their lives with their families who never fail to believe that their loved ones will have this chance to make a new beginning out of miserable experiences and vices. A warm round of applause to the LGU of Bislig through the leadership of Mayor Navarro in realizing these seminars for a cause. Change has come indeed!
