Bislig is one of the fastest-growing cities in Surigao del Sur in CARAGA region. Bislig City is surrounded by lush green forest and industrial tree plantations. Bislig has a land area of 40,503 hectares spread over 24 Barangays, with close to half is classified as “Public Forest”.
According to oral tradition, the city was named after a forest vine of the rattan family which grew in abundance along the river banks. This vine was noted for its strength and known to had saved the lives of a royal couple who once crossed the river.
The city is largely agricultural but it is also rich in aqua-marine resources which are traded in major cities like Davao City, Butuan City and even Cebu City.
